Ms. Chanda Jefferson, Science Department Chair and STEM Leader Teacher at Fairfield Central High School, has been named one of three educators nationwide to receive a grant to attend the Amazon Rainforest Educator Academy this summer in Iquitos, Peru.

Ms. Jefferson will be the only teacher from South Carolina participating in a 14-day cross-curricular professional development workshop for educators, offering the opportunity to explore one of the world’s most important natural resources – the Amazon rainforest of Peru. This unique professional development opportunity is designed to engage participants in hands-on investigations, citizen science research projects, and inquiry-based learning activities to deepen understanding of the rainforest ecosystem and its global importance.
